Insects Common During the Summer Season in Thailand

Thailand’s summer season, typically from March to May, is characterized by high temperatures and humidity. These conditions create an ideal environment for many insects to breed and thrive, leading to a noticeable increase in insect activity both indoors and outdoors.
One of the most common insects during this period is the mosquito. Stagnant water from plant pots, buckets, and drains provides perfect breeding grounds, increasing the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue fever. Houseflies are also more prevalent in hot weather, especially around food waste and garbage areas.
Ants and cockroaches frequently enter homes in search of food and water during the dry heat. Their presence often increases in kitchens and storage areas if food is not properly sealed. Termite swarmers (flying termites) may appear after sudden summer rains, as they emerge to reproduce and establish new colonies.
Another insect commonly seen during Thailand’s hot season is the rove beetle, scientifically known as Paederus fuscipes. Although small, this insect can cause skin irritation if crushed against the skin, leading to painful rashes or blister-like lesions.
To reduce insect problems during the summer, it is important to eliminate standing water, dispose of waste properly, store food securely, and maintain overall cleanliness. Installing window screens and using appropriate insect repellents can also help minimize contact and prevent potential health risks.
A Fun Cardio Idea That’s Gaining Momentum

If running is starting to feel boring and HIIT seems too intense,
imagine a workout that feels like you’re simply bouncing for fun yet delivers a full cardio session.
Rebounding is a form of exercise performed on a mini trampoline. By bouncing continuously at a light to moderate intensity, your heart rate rises, calories are burned, and impact on the joints is significantly lower than running on hard surfaces.
What makes it appealing?
- Effective cardio with reduced stress on the knees
- Continuous core engagement
- Requires minimal space
- Just 10 - 20 minutes can leave you feeling refreshed and energized
Many people say the difference isn’t just about breaking a sweat.
It’s about the sense of enjoyment that makes them want to keep going.
In an era where sustainability matters more than intensity,
Rebounding offers a refreshing approach to fitness
Stay fit, without feeling forced.
Beat the Heat: An Essential Guide to First Aid for Heatstroke

With temperatures rising, Heatstroke has become a critical health risk that everyone should be aware of. Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the body can no longer control its temperature. Knowing the correct first aid steps can save a life.
6 Critical First Aid Steps
- Call Emergency Services Immediately
- In Thailand, dial 1669 immediately or contact the nearest hospital's emergency services for an ambulance.
- Move to the Shade
- Get the person out of direct sunlight and into a cool, shaded area or an air-conditioned room as quickly as possible.
- Optimize Positioning
- Lay the person flat on their back and elevate their feet to increase blood flow to the brain.
- Remove Excess Clothing
- Loosen or remove unnecessary clothing to help the body cool down faster.
- Cool the Body Rapidly
- Apply cold packs or wet towels to the neck, armpits, and groin area.
- Sponge the body with cool water, wiping against the direction of hair growth (towards the heart) to help open pores.
- Use a fan or mist the person with cool water if available to enhance evaporation.
- Hydration (If Conscious)
- If the person is conscious: Give them small sips of cool water or electrolyte drinks.
- If the person is unconscious: DO NOT give them water, as they may choke or experience airway obstruction.
Important Precautions
- Do NOT leave the person alone until professional medical help arrives.
- Do NOT use alcohol rubs, as alcohol can close the pores and trap heat inside the body.
- Be ready for CPR: If the person stops breathing or loses a pulse, start CPR immediately following the guidelines of The Thai Red Cross Society.
Stay safe this summer! Remember to drink plenty of water and avoid prolonged outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
